Socom Beta Blues

Category: The Wire

As most of you PS3 owners might know, the Socom Confrontation beta started yesterday.  24 hours later, I have yet to play a game.  While some friends I know have had success, the majority are stuck in my exact predicament.  Basically the game starts and I get stuck in loading limbo and am forced to restart my PS3.  I finally got into a game, let out a whoop and a holler and proceeded to watch an entire 6 minute match.   Up until the next round started…..and I was forced to watch the game from the sidelines again like the benchwarmer the game has cast me to be.  I have not had much luck today either but it is at the least midly comforting to know that Sony is aware of the issue.

UPDATE: In the middle of typing this post, I was also attempting to play a match.  I finally got into a match and the game was moving at about 10 frames a second.  I stepped out of my spawn and was instantly killed by, what I can only assume to be, an invisible assassin.  The lag was unbearable so I was forced to quit…which froze my system and forced me to restart.  This Socom Confrontation beta is a beta in every definition of the word.  I understand that the main point of a multiplayer beta is for players to test the servers, but I wish I could also…I don’t know…maybe have fun in the process.  I truly feel like a beta tester.  I would have a bit of optimism if it wasnt for the awesome Call of Duty 4 beta which has apparently spoiled me.  I will keep updating this post on any future endeavors into my quest to play a good match in Socom Confrontation.

Video Dump - Eat, Shuffle, Repeat Edition

Category: The Wire

First up is the premiere trailer for House of The Dead:Overkill for the Wii. This has to be one of the best trailers of 2008 so far as Sega splashes the screen with Grindhouse B movie goodness. “They’ve come for brains, you’ll give them bullets”

The second video is the first video footage for Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop for the Wii. The game is being built on the same engine that brought Resident Evil 4 to the Wii. The sweet graphics and mayhem of the Xbox 360 original have been swapped for motion control and….motion control. The developers are aiming for 100 zombies on screen at once but Im not sure Nintendo’s Wii little heart can take it.

Last but not least, is the latest trailer for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 5. The waiting is definitely the hard part.

Short Arms & Deep Pockets: Dark Sector

Category: The Wire

This one is for the cheap gamer in all of us. If you never picked up Dark Sector, Gamestop is now selling it or the low, low price of $19.99. I mean, How much would you pay for hours upon hours chock full of decapitations and dismemberments. I thought so…

“What the F*** Have You Done Lately?”

Category: The Wire

Here is the first footage of Wanted the videogame. It is being spearheaded by Pete Wanat, the man behind previous movie tie-ins The Chronicles of Riddick and Scarface:The World is Yours. Wanat’s commitment to create video games that go beyond the movie should prove a deciding factor in this game’s success. I like the fact that it takes place immediately after the movie and that it’s sticking to the movie’s comic book roots.

4 New Characters confirmed for MK vs. DC

Category: The Wire

Jimmy Palmiotti from DC and Ed Boon from Midway have confirmed four new additions to the MK vs. DC lineup.  Green Lantern and The Joker have been added to the DC side and Jax and Kitana have been added to the MK side. Ed Boon also confirmed that Jimmy Palmiotti himself will be added to the lineup as a secret character.  I was skeptical about this game but they have added the two characters that I wanted on the DC side, so this game just got added to my must have list.  The thought of The Joker vs. Batman just put a smile on my face.
