4 New Characters confirmed for MK vs. DC

July 26th, 2008 | Category: The Wire

Jimmy Palmiotti from DC and Ed Boon from Midway have confirmed four new additions to the MK vs. DC lineup.  Green Lantern and The Joker have been added to the DC side and Jax and Kitana have been added to the MK side. Ed Boon also confirmed that Jimmy Palmiotti himself will be added to the lineup as a secret character.  I was skeptical about this game but they have added the two characters that I wanted on the DC side, so this game just got added to my must have list.  The thought of The Joker vs. Batman just put a smile on my face.

Gamestop Gears of War 2 After Hours Event

July 20th, 2008 | Category: The Wire

It seems Gamestop wants to solidify themselves as the official launch center for Gears Of War 2 when it releases this November.  They are bringing back their After Hours event with a brand new video opening with Cliff Bleszinski and closing out with some new footage for Gears of War 2.  On top of that, they are also putting together a quick tournament with the top competitor taking home 400 Microsoft points.  The tourney is a 1 vs. 1 single elimination match on Gridlock.  The twist is that you only have the guns on your back as Gamestop has chosen to remove all weapons.  Just like the last After Hours event, it is only open to those gamers who are 17 or older and participation varies from store to store, so you might want to call ahead.  The After Hours event is this Friday, July 25th after closing time.

Lips announced for the Xbox 360

July 11th, 2008 | Category: The Wire

Microsoft finally has their answer to Sony’s Singstar and it goes by the name of Lips.  Long rumored and finally confirmed, developer iNiS, most known for Elite Beat Agents and Gitaroo Man, will be behind the project.  The game is set to ship this November with 2 wireless microphones with lights attached to the bottom that will pulsate to the sound of your voice. The microphones also have built in motion sensors that react to a player’s movements.  Sounds like a great idea on Microsoft’s part but its success will be determined by the track list, which just so happens to be Singstar’s weak point.  Hit the link for the first images.

New Bungie Game on Monday?

July 08th, 2008 | Category: The Wire

On the recent Bungie podcast, the house that built Halo teased their next project towards the end of the 90 minute cast.  Here’s the basic transcript:

Brian: Isn’t there something going on on July 14th or something like that?
Luke: Yeah, around then.
Brian: Somehow that’s sticking in my head for some reason. Guess we’ll have to see.
Luke: Yep, we’ll just have to be patient. Who could say?

For those who don’t know, Monday July 14th is Microsoft’s E3 conference and now it seems they are set to reveal the project that Bungie has been working on.  Hopefully the reveal will finally answer the questions as to what the above symbol means.  Dubbed the ‘Superintendent’ it has been popping up all over Bungie.  I would not hold my breath for a Halo 4 announcement, but this may be the halo spinoff that has been grinding the rumor mill lately.  I am personally hoping for a completely new IP and looking forward to a superintendent platformer on XBLA.
